this is a pilot for a podcast that i made with pineapple street studios.
the hope was to shop the pilot around and sell it to the highest bidder for joe rogan money. unfortunately, after they gave joe rogan all that joe rogan money, there's not that much money left for anybody else.
like television, the podcast marketplace is a mess right now and the bubble may be bursting a bit. hell, even the parent company of the folks who helped make this pilot went bankrupt.
the show is called everything is racist with wyatt cenac and the premise was to take a comedic and kinda thoughtful look at the ways in which race plays a role in every aspect of our lives from the serious to the seemingly trivial.
the pilot looks at how race plays a role in something incredibly childish: LEGO
it's a pilot, so it's a little rough around the edges, but it was fun to make and a lot of people put a lot of hard work and energy into it, so it felt like that effort was worth sharing.
sometimes you make things and for whatever reason in this intersection of art and commerce, they don't work out. but thankfully the internet is more than happy to make space for those projects, so they don't have to collect dust on a shelf and in the minds of the people who made them.
this show was made possible thanks to audacy's pineapple street studios and the hard work of the following people:
jonathan menjivar, leila day, melissa slaughter, janelle anderson, marina paiz, pedro alvira, jade brooks, sharon bardales, gabe kawugule & bari finkel
special thanks to: jenna weiss-berman, max linsky, erik rydholm, anna holmes, domonique foxworth, pablo torre, patrick kim, rachel miller-howard & meadowlark media.
for more information about the women's brick initiative and their LEGO petition.
and if you’re curious, this is the pitch deck used to originally sell the show.
and here’s another little something that helped inspire the idea.
