this started as a silly excuse for donwill and i to hang out and share our appreciation for blaxploitation films with a bunch of strangers.

these movies that make up the genre can be incredibly thoughtful, completely tone deaf, experimental, cinematic, weirdly prescient, and unintentionally funny, so we figured it’d be cool to have microphones to point out some of the things that we notice.

a decade later and we’re still doing the show; having taken it on the road to music and comedy festivals like sxsw and san francisco’s sketchfest. each time, we invite a special guest to experience the movie for the first time and an audience to eat, drink, laugh and enjoy it all with us.

the nitehawk cinema prospect park is our regular home for the show. check out their website or the show’s instagram page and give it a follow to get updates on shows.

the new yorker magazine said nice things about shouting at the screen… i think. the article is behind a paywall and i’ve reached my limit of free articles for the month.
